3GSM Round Up

MOTOROLA...

Motorola made a large number of device announcements, including announcements on i-mode, Bluetooth, a tie up with Yahoo! on mobile podcasting, Kodak on imaging  and with Microsoft for entertainment and personal information tools.

The thread tying all these themes together was “delivering seamless mobility”.

“When it comes to mobile entertainment, Motorola delivers it all – music, information, video, gaming and community,” said Ron Garriques, president of Motorola Mobile Devices.

As part of its continuing relationship with Yahoo!, Motorola demonstrated podcasting on a RAZR V3x phone. This application will let consumers drag and drop podcasts directly from the PC to the mobile through the Yahoo! Music Engine, and allow over-the-air downloading of podcasts through an application integrated on the handset.

Motorola also extended its relationship with Microsoft, announcing the  integration of WindowsMedia technologies on Motorola handsets. Motorola's music handsets will add support for Windows Media Digital Rights Management, Windows Media Audio, the enhanced Windows Media Audio Pro codec and Media Transfer Protocol..

The company also pushed on with the promotion of its Canopy solution, part of its MOTOwi4 portfolio, to perform high-speed, rich media downloads and IP video telephony. The portfolio includes Motorola's developments in WiMAx and Mesh radio alongside Canopy, as well as IP core network development..
