3GSM NEWS: SmarTone-Vodafone to utilize Bridgewater Systems solutions to support wireless applications, ensure Quality of Service

Bridgewater Systems, a leading developer of subscriber-centric policy management software for IP-based services, has announced that SmarTone-Vodafone has selected Bridgewater to provide a comprehensive policy management solution that will help the Hong Kong-based service provider optimize its mobile services and revenue streams. By deploying the Bridgewater Systems Dynamic Broadband Manager and AAA Service Controller, SmarTone-Vodafone can target specific subscriber segments and differentiate their services, manage and control network resources in real time and improve the overall subscriber network experience.

To meet the needs of its one million plus subscriber base, SmarTone-Vodafone is planning a number of service initiatives. By implementing Dynamic Broadband Manager, SmarTone-Vodafone can manage network policies in real time over its High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) network on a per-subscriber, per-session basis. This solution also allows SmarTone-Vodafone to create customized service tiers, and limit bandwidth consumption by applications such as peer-to-peer (P2P) traffic, or by subscriber based on time and other controls.

The Bridgewater Systems AAA Service Controller, proven in service provider networks around the globe, will be deployed as a proxy solution to enable SmarTone-Vodafone to apply network resource policy based on time of day, and subscriber information such as device type and location. As a result, this solution will ensure that the appropriate resources such as bandwidth can be applied to subscriber sessions while the subscriber is roaming.

"The Bridgewater solution allows us to further fulfill our commitment to superior customer relationship management," said Stephen Chau, CTO, SmarTone-Vodafone. "The Hong Kong market is extremely competitive. To be successful, we must continue to provide an unbeatable customer experience through a broader range of high quality services. The Bridgewater solution will play a key role in helping us accomplish our service goals while optimizing network resource usage and minimizing costs."

Implementation is slated for completion during the first half of 2007. The implementation will be managed by Syniverse Technologies.

"We're excited to help SmarTone-Vodafone achieve an edge in a market that is characterized by fierce competition," said Steven Szeto, vice president, Asia Pacific, Bridgewater Systems. "In markets such as Hong Kong, accelerating the launch of new services, while taking advantage of every revenue-generating opportunity, is crucial. The Bridgewater solution will ensure that subscribers are provisioned to access services on demand, have access only to authorized services and that revenue for use of these services is realized in real time."
