Real time IMS charging from Telcordia

Telcordia introduces Diameter support for full IMS-compliant Online Charging System

Expanding its significant global momentum in IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) with its Maestro IMS Portfolio, Telcordia today announces the availability of an integrated Diameter interface to its Telcordia Converged Real Time Charging solution. With the integration of Diameter and the Credit Control Application (CCA), both industry standards specified by the 3GPP, Telcordia’s Real Time Charging solution gives operators an essential tool to introduce revolutionary services, flexible pricing offers, reduce revenue leakage and minimize operating expenses.

The Telcordia Real Time Charging solution offers industry-leading charging flexibility for circuit switched, intelligent networks and emerging IMS networks.  The Telcordia solution is an IMS-compliant Online Charging System (OCS) that supports the widest set of standardized fixed, mobile and IP interfaces in the industry, and thus has the flexibility within the Telcordia Maestro IMS Portfolio to ensure a structured migration path for established operators looking to derive greater value from their existing network assets.

Operators that plan to adopt IMS can use the Telcordia Real Time Charging solution to effectively converge prepaid and postpaid services as well as harness the power of service usage and billing data. Examples of value-added services for operators using the Telcordia Real Time Charging solution include shared value accounts, marketing promotions, dynamically priced incentives, content filtering, control of subscriber spending limits and improved authentication.

“We are addressing the desire of operators to offer bundles, promotions and incentives across product lines, so that a music download service, for example, could be bundled with a text messaging promotion,” said Tom Arnold, Chief Strategist, IMS Service Delivery Solutions, Telcordia. “It adds the intelligence that helps operators make attractive offers and promotions based on service usage, which increases customer loyalty and usage.”

With the addition of the Diameter standard, Telcordia’s Real Time Charging solution allows operators, for the first time, to collect service usage data or authorization requests for voice and data, wireline and wireless, prepaid and postpaid IN, IMS, GSM, CDMA and UMTS interfaces.

Operators that deploy Telcordia’s Real Time Charging solution may realize the following benefits:

·        Rapid introduction  and rapid modification of new services in direct response to market demand

·        Dynamic support for marketing programs and real-time services promotions based on subscriber service usage

·        Increased ARPU through premium content pricing and rewards for customer loyalty

·        Reduced network operating costs through a single platform for prepaid and postpaid services

·        Minimized credit fraud risk by pre-authorized charging

·        The elimination of revenue leakage from services.
