COSMOTE Romania opens
COSMOTE Romania, COSMOTE subsidiary in Romania, has announced the official launch of its commercial operations.
Under new philosophy and management, COSMOTE Romania, the first Group subsidiary to adopt COSMOTE brand name, opens up a new chapter in the Romanian market delivering on its promise to make mobile telecommunications accessible to all.
Commenting on the launch of COSMOTE Romania, COSMOTE Greece CEO, Mr Evangelos Martigopoulos, said: “Today we are celebrating a significant milestone in the history of COSMOTE Group and an important breakthrough for Romanian telecommunications. Applying a flat and simple tariff policy, COSMOTE Romania begins its commercial operations offering postpaid customers the lowest monthly charges and free airtime for calls to all destinations. For the first time in the Romanian market, subscribers can enjoy free airtime to all networks at the lowest monthly fee of 3 euro and combine voice bundles with all available low price SMS packages.
For those who choose freedom of communication, COSMOTE Romania launched Cartela COSMOTE, a youth oriented, affordable prepaid brand offering a low flat charge for calls to all destinations, allowing customers to talk up to 47% cheaper compared to other networks. Cartela COSMOTE offers the lowest SMS charges providing up to 100 SMS to all COSMOTE users with a monthly fee of only 1.5 euro.

COSMOTE Romania has developed an extensive sales network, one of the widest in the country, making its products and services accessible throughout Romania. The company’s sales network includes 10 exclusive COSMOTE shops, 75 exclusive ROMTELECOM and 175 commercial partners’ shops, including GERMANOS stores as well as a selected number of local and independent dealers providing nationwide coverage. Moreover, COSMOTE Romania’s prepaid products are available through thousands of additional points of sale across the country, while the company has a dedicated Direct Sales team for its corporate customers.
Today, COSMOTE Romania features a dense network that provides coverage to almost 80% of the population. The company’s immediate priorities include the increase of capacity, the consistent optimisation of its network’s quality and the further increase of its coverage to 90% of the population by June 2006.
The company’s management team consists of highly qualified experts from the mobile telecommunications industry and key executives from Greece and Romania. Today, COSMOTE Romania employs 400 people, the vast majority of which are Romanian, with the number expected to rise to 600 by the end of June 2006.
