Orange Switzerland first to launch woth OMA DRM 2.0
Musiwave, a provider of turnkey music entertainment services, applications and content to mobile operators, ISPs, handset makers and media companies, and Viaccess (France Telecom’s subsidiary), a European leader in conditional access for pay television and protection of digital content over broadband networks, have powered, on behalf of Orange Switzerland, the first-ever music service using the industry approved OMA 2.0 (Open Mobile Alliance) DRM.
What is OMA 2.0 DRM? : by comparison to OMA 1.0 providing only basic protection, this 2nd version is designed to protect high value content and enable new business models through a broader feature set; The new OMA DRM v2.0 adds protection features (Content is delivered in encrypted format), as well as improved support for device capabilities, audio and video rendering, streaming content, and access to protected content using multiple devices. Last but not least, this DRM is approved by the whole music industry, which opens the door to the roll-out new creative tariff plan for end-consumers (Rental model, …).
Musiwave’s leading full-track download service integrates Viaccess’s OMA 2.0-compliant DRM system in both its delivery platform and mobile music players. The combination of better content protection and simple user experience allowed by Musiwave’s music application (embedded within the handset) will help drive faster consumer usage.
The offering will be deployed progressively across the countries that France Telecom serves.
