Sicap brings operator resource management up to date

New system manages lifecycle of SIMs, handsets and mobile numbers

Sicap, a leading provider of software solutions for mobile operators, today launched its Resource Management System (RMS), an innovative solution which manages the complete lifecycle of SIM cards, mobile numbers, handsets and their interdependencies via a central and automated system.

With the increase in subscriber base and the multiple resources allocated to them, operators are facing a daunting task managing the resource lifecycle.

RMS reduces the risk and error associated with the manual input of data leading to cost savings from increased process efficiency.

The system also allows an operator to offer new services to generate additional revenue.

Traditionally, independent information systems for the ordering, management and distribution processes of resources have been used, with little or no interaction between them.

RMS, being a central and automated system, ensures the overall security and data integrity of the lifecycle management process, therefore removing the possibility of human error.

It supplies a resource database with real time updates of activation status, with automated provisioning for all related systems, such as Over-the-Air (OTA), billing and the Home Location Register (HLR).

RMS also provides end user benefits associated with gaining access to innovative and personalised services.

As RMS is the central management system, operators are able to offer subscribers new services that will eventually increase revenue.

For example, RMS allows operators to manage all mobile phone numbers and offer subscribers the opportunity to select their own numbers at a higher fee than normal numbers.

These numbers could be part of a birthday or a consecutive sequence of numbers for members of the family.

Furthermore, managing numbers centrally allows operators to keep a general reserve of numbers without pre-allocation into pre or post paid, resulting in reduced inventory costs and processes.

Kam Mehta, Product Manager at Sicap, explained, “The traditional systems used by operators have required the manual input of lots of data into many different systems, leaving room for human error.  Operators can suffer revenue loss, for example, when a SIM is activated for use in one system, but not in another, meaning that the customer may never get billed.  When you think that there are currently millions of phone subscribers, each with a SIM card, a phone number and a handset, this equals tens of millions of resources.  RMS centralises and automates this process, providing a system to effectively support the logistics of managing multiple resources.  This helps operators achieve the highest level of efficiency throughout the whole life cycle process.”

RMS enhances the ordering and provisioning processes, by automating and synchronising the many events that take place during a resource life cycle. It also allows management of both distribution and supply channels for the resource that is being managed. This supports the inventory management processes as well as providing efficient management of supplier relations.  With its modular approach, RMS is flexible enough to manage a single resource or multiple resources with individual and batch provisioning process, modules can also be added without replacing the base system, helping to achieve true “Efficiency through Lifecycle Management”.
