APPIUM ANNOUNCES NEXT GENERATION SERVICE PLATFORM

Appium-XWay 4.0 service platform designed to provide complete IMS support for operators

As the next telecoms revolution opens up infinite possibilities with the advent of SIP and IMS applications, Appium, one of the leading providers of next-generation telecommunications applications platforms, today announces the launch of version 4.0 of its Appium-XWay service platform. The new platform from Appium is designed to enable all SIP/IMS technologies while at the same time allowing operators to significantly reduce costs while delivering next generation SIP and IMS services.

Designed to provide a comprehensive set of utilities that enable the creation, deployment and management of telecoms services, the Appium-XWay 4.0 offers a multi-layer environment that allows the application level management of converged telecoms services.

A key feature of the Appium-XWay 4.0 is the capability to support both IMS and Web Services; the platform will support IMS services using the IMS defined interfaces for service control, charging and subscriber data while it allows for proprietary and standard Web Services implementations with a number of different network capabilities including IMS/SIP, OSA/Parlay and SOAP among others.

The Appium-XWay 4.0 makes integrating with IMS networks easy. It enables operators to offer exciting and value added services blending voice, video and messaging – on any device and at any time. The new SIP/IMS module allows existing Appium customers to extend their Appium-XWay platform into the IMS and thereby get convergence between legacy and NGN networks.

Similarly, using the Web Services functionality in the Appium-XWay, operators can tailor services to customers’ specific needs with compelling service experiences in a very short time, and at a low cost. With Web Services interfaces, operators can then open their network to Service Providers, or to enterprise customers, enabling them to create many new services and drive traffic for everyone. The Appium-XWay becomes a telecom enabler for SOA providing Web Service interface for capabilities like call control.

The new version of the Appium-XWay service platform offers telecoms operators a number of additional capabilities including the ability to converge and migrate existing applications to SIP/IMS as well as enabling the creation of a number of new SIP/IMS applications.

Eric Lundquist, CEO of Appium, commented, “We’re delighted to announce the launch of the next version of Appium’s highly successful Appium-XWay service platform, the Appium-XWay 4.0. Providing telecoms operators with a single platform that can address all their requirements will allow them to plan for the next generation of services while at the same time providing the user with a superb user experience”.

Lundquist continued, “The Appium-XWay 4.0 is the core of any emerging Service Delivery Platform architecture where IMS, SIP, Web Services and Parlay among others are the technologies and standards that are required for a telecom operator to push through to the next generation of services and offerings. This offering from Appium will enable the operator to enhance the end-user experience of their telecom services and continue to drive ARPU while at the same time maximising their ROI.”

The Appium-XWay platform is an operator-focussed, delivery environment that allows the development of existing networks towards next generation infrastructure and services. It provides a comprehensive set of interfaces that allow service creation to be network transparent with centralised service provisioning and supports the convergence of fixed, mobile and next generation networks.

The Appium-XWay platform is packaged as a Convergent AS, SIP/IMS AS, Parlay AS and Web Service Gateway. Additionally, Appium-XWay can be purchased with partner applications such as Virtual PBX, Multimedia VPN and Televoting,

Appium provides full support for the Appium-XWay with the Appium-GBox development toolkit. Whether migrating applications from existing networks, or creating new applications, Appium’s toolkit enables Java programmers to develop exciting convergent services in record time that are implemented quickly and without fuss. The toolkit incorporates a sophisticated testing, network simulation and debugging environment to speed up service creation.
