World's 'first' international mobile signature roaming with Valimo and BBS

Valimo Wireless and BBS (Banking and Business Solutions) have demonstrated that mobile signatures can be completed across borders, between mobile operators and mobile signature service providers. The first international mobile signature roaming test was successfully accomplished between a Valimo Validator MSSP (Mobile Signature Service Platform) installed in Finland and an acquiring entity, installed at BBS in Norway.

BBS has set up an acquiring Valimo Validator through which signing requests can be routed to the home MSSP of any mobile phone subscriber in the world. This achievement is yet another proof that the mobile handset is turning into an identity token, securing access to web-services, anytime anywhere in the world.

"This success is important in two ways. First, mobile signature roaming has previously only been available between Elisa and TeliaSonera subscribers within Finland. Our solution shows how mobile signature providers in different countries can serve an international group of application providers and mobile subscribers. Second, we have demonstrated that open ETSI standards allow mobile operators and signature providers to seamlessly work together as one global network", says Will Cardwell, CEO at Valimo.

"The successful implementation of international mobile signature services, managed by BBS, offers wide range of value propositions to our customers, partners and end users. As the largest provider of electronic ID and signature services in the Nordic region, we will translate our economies of scale to offer cost effective mobile signature solutions to the telecom operators and enterprises", says Sven Falcke, Director at BBS Trust Services.

The mobile signature roaming service allows mobile operators, financial institutions and government agencies to form a mesh of inter-working MSSP-systems. This offers service providers greater market coverage and allows them to use mobile signatures for strong authentication and signing towards their web services.
