Deutsche Telekom develops traffic management atlas

    -

Deutsche Telekom has developed a traffic management map that uses mobile data to help control the flow of vehicles through a city.

Its Czech Republic business worked with the country’s Transport Systems Development Centre, which conceptualised, developed and tested the solution.

The Central Europe Mobility Atlas (CEMA) collects and measures anonymous mobile data from a range of different sources and can be extended to use sensors that track floods or pollution. It has already been used in Prague to help optimise the running of the city’s public transport system.

The operator said the CEMA could play a critical role in crisis management, informing emergency services of a situation and ensuring they have the best means to reach their location.

It could also play a role in smart cities, by tracking the flow of people and developing the right traffic infrastructure and public transport to cope.

Deutsche Telekom said the offering will be gradually rolled out to other eastern European markets in Poland, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Croatia.

Ralf Nejedl, Senior Vice President for B2B/ICT Sales & Service Europe at Deutsche Telekom, said: “Deutsche Telekom aims at putting the pieces of the complex smart city ecosystem together, supporting cities in their transformation process into intelligent urban areas and ultimately helping to increase the quality of life for citizens.”

Earlier this year, Deutsche Telekom’s Croatian operation built a smart street in Dubrovnik, which offered traffic management services, smart parking and connected lighting systems.
