Vodafone connects London healthcare workers in m-health push

    -

Vodafone UK has installed an m-health solution at a healthcare trust in London that helps staff to send and receive patient information.

Software from TotalMobile has been integrated with RiO, the trust’s patient record system, allowing healthcare workers to access and update records remotely via a tablet while they are helping a patient.

Vodafone said the new system would “significantly” reduce the time it takes to update and access paper copy records. It said other benefits would be reduced clinical risk, more accurate patient records and a reduction in time spent on administration.

The new system has been rolled out to 245 staff in at a district nursing teams in the north west of London.

Richard Aspinall Head of Regional Public Sector for Vodafone UK, said: “Technology is enabling lots of organisations to transform the way they work, be more productive and give employees a better work-life balance.

“For London North West Healthcare NHS Trust, implementing mobile technology allows community nurses to be where they are needed most and gives them the tools to deliver the best service to their patients. Enabling staff to access whatever they need, wherever and whenever they need it can make all the difference – increasing productivity by freeing peoples’ time to do more, better.”

Aside from standard connectivity, wearables and the Internet of Things have been seen as the two areas that will benefit the most from m-health. Research released earlier this year by Machina said there will be 847 million connected M2M devices by 2023. There were fewer than 100 million such devices last year.
