Video: 5G will flounder if operators don’t think big, says Deutsche Telekom CTO

    -

Operators will fail to take advantage of 5G’s promise if they treat it like an incremental progression of cellular technology, the Group CTO of Deutsche Telekom has claimed.

Speaking in an exclusive video interview at Mobile Europe’s CTO of the Year awards last month, Bruno Jacobfeuerborn said the industry has been striving to ensure the first 5G standards are in place for next year.

However, he said the most important change facing the industry “is in our brains” and said operators should not treat 5G as a linear step forward like the evolution of 2G to 3G or 3G to LTE. He said: “We must have disruptive models to get the economy right.”

You can watch the video in full below. Elsewhere on Mobile Europe, you can watch CTOs discuss the issue they feel is being underplayed by the industry.
