Former ARM man to join BT Technology Committee

    -

Mike Inglis is set to join the BT Board as a non-executive director and a member of the operator’s Technology Committee.

Inglis, who currently serves as an independent director at US chipset company AMD where he acts as a member of the audit, innovations and nominations committees, assumes his new role on 1 September.

He is also the non-executive director of cable and IPTV equipment manufacturer Pace, a position he has held since 2008.

Previously, Inglis had a 10-year stint at ARM, including a year acting as the company’s Chief Commercial Officer. He also has senior positions at Motorola and roles at semiconductor company Texas Instruments under his belt.

BT’s Technology Committee is tasked with driving the operator’s tech development strategy, which includes helping to select vendors and endorsing BT’s approach to research, innovation and patents.

Commenting on the appointment, BT Chairman Sir Michael Rake said: “I’m delighted to welcome Mike to BT. He has a decade of board experience and brings with him in-depth experience of the technology industry. He will be a great asset for BT and its Board.”

BT returned to the mobile market in March with an “inside-out” approach that is designed for heavy indoor data usage.

It has signed up more than 100,000 customers in the three months to June.

The service is offered as an MVNO via EE’s network. The two companies are set to merge next year.
