    Ericsson launches virtualisation solution for telcos

    Ericsson has launched a new solution to help operators manage existing technologies on their networks while adding virtualised capabilities.

    The Dynamic Orchestration platform supports automated end-to-end orchestration of new cloud-based services as operators move their networks to SDN and NFV.

    Capabilities include new service definition, which allows personalised services such as SD-WAN, VPN and 5G network slicing to be rapidly launched.

    It also offers service order management by using automation to speed up processing of service requests.

    Service design and configuration is also included the platform, allowing customers to allocate and manage available inventory and resources.

    It also offers automated service assurance capabilities based on policy as well as capacity management to provide the required level of resources in real time.

    Ulf Ewaldsson, Head of Business Area Digital Services, Ericsson, said: “The opportunities offered by virtualisation are significant, but due to the complexity, many operators are taking an incremental step-by-step approach to get there.”

    Ewaldsson said that the new platform would enable customers to continue to provide traditional services while moving towards 5G and IoT.

    In November, Ericsson launched the Network Functions Virtualisation infrastructure (NFVi) platform, consisting of its datacentre system, blade server platform, cloud execution environment, cloud manager, cloud software defined networking, system integration and support services.

    Meanwhile, Ericsson said it would be working with KT to deploy and optimise a 5G network during 2017. KT is aiming to launch a 5G network in time for the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang.

    The two companies conducted tests along the Incheon Airport Railway linking the capital Seoul with Incheon International Airport, achieving peak throughput of 4GBps. They have agreed to jointly develop beam forming and tracking technology and 5G-LTE interworking technology.
