Play is set to expand its radio access network in Poland after signing a new partnership with Ericsson.
The Polish operator has been working with Huawei as an infrastructure partner for the past 12 years and rolled out 6,000 base stations to date.
The Ericsson partnership will not affect this work with the Swedish vendor using its radio and operation support systems to widen P4’s network coverage and increase user experience.
Play and Ericsson will also work together on network projects at the vendor’s Kraków and Łódź’s research and development centres. The Kraków centre opened late last year.
Play CEO Jean-Marc Harion said: “Play has been the operator deploying the largest number of radio sites this year, and our mobile data speed was recently recognized as the second best in Poland.
“In the perspective of our investments in existing and future technology, we are pleased to extend our cooperation with Ericsson to the area of the radio network.
“Play has gained a strong partner in Ericsson, which will help us accelerate the plan of further expansion of our own telecommunication network and ultimately will participate in the next stages of our network evolution.”
In June, rivals Orange and Nokia held a live trial of cloud RAN in the eastern Poland city of Chelm.
