StarHub is first in Asia Pacific to provide Push email connectivity on more mobile phones with Smartner Duality Always-on Mail solution

StarHub’s latest service further strengthens its stronghold in wireless push email solutions

StarHub, Singapore’s innovative info-communications provider, and Smartner, the winner of GSM Innovative Award 2003 and the European leader in mobile email and office solutions, have announced StarHub’s deployment of the award-winning Smartner Duality Always-on Mail Solution to further extend its popular suite of PushMail services and provide instant email connectivity to a variety of Windows Mobile or Symbian based mobile devices such as O2 Xda II, Sony Ericsson P900 and Nokia 6600.

Starting from 22 July 2004, StarHub’s corporate customers can subscribe to the new mobile data service – StarHub Duality – at S$28 monthly for 4 MB of data access or S$68 monthly for unlimited data access.

StarHub Duality offers connection to two different email servers – Domino and Exchange, and extends secure access to users on Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes email browsers through their mobile phones.

The unique technology powering StarHub Duality automatically and instantaneously delivers emails received at the desktops or laptops, to users via their mobile phones. They can then reply to the emails received as well as compose new emails from their mobile phones, like they would on their computers in the office.  With StarHub’s extensive GPRS roaming coverage, customers who are overseas are able to receive emails pushed to their mobile devices as seamlessly as sending or receiving SMS messages. For example, while waiting in the immigration line at the airport in India, you can still receive new corporate emails via your mobile phone instantaneously.

Companies on Exchange server and Microsoft Windows Mobile devices enjoy the added convenience of providing their users better control over their desktop functionality with the access of calendar and email folders on their mobile phones. They can view and update their calendar, set appointments, create and accept meeting requests, as well as file their emails from the Inbox directly into the folders on their desktop.

“Today, business deals are not always conducted in boardrooms. Key decisions are often made while executives are on the move around the world. Increasingly, companies recognise that it is crucial to provide seamless and easy to use always-on email access for their executives to gain the edge of faster turnaround time and higher productivity regardless of location,” said Mr Chan Kin Hung, head of mobile services at StarHub. “StarHub is the pioneer provider of wireless push email solution with our launch of BlackBerry for Enterprise, BlackBerry for Individual, and BlackBerry on Nokia solutions.  To help our customers better manage information, converse and exchange ideas wherever they go with a good selection of various mobile devices, we decided to expand our suite of PushMail solutions by introducing StarHub Duality.  This not only allows customers to have access to time-critical information, but also a choice of PushMail devices to best suit their lifestyle needs and preferences.”

Added Mr Chan: “With their office emails and calendar appointments ‘pushed’ seamlessly to and sent from mobile phones, our customers on any of our PushMail solutions can stay truly mobile and connected via the email anytime, anywhere. This way, they will never miss another important email again.”

“We are proud to bring an open-standard push email solution to Singapore on StarHub’s advanced and robust GSM/GPRS network with extensive roaming capabilities,” said Mr Paul Hedman, chief executive officer, Smartner.  “Together with StarHub, the leading solution amongst enterprises and business professionals in Europe is now available for the first time in Asia Pacific.”

This new value-added service will also be available soon to individual StarHub mobile customers who require always-on access to their corporate email accounts.
