ZTE to Deploy the First Commercial WiMAX Network in Serbia

    -

Serbia is to receive its first ever commercial WiMAX network in an agreement announced today between leading WiMAX operator, VeratNet, and ZTE Corporation (Shenzhen: 000063, Hong Kong: 0763), China’s largest listed telecommunications manufacturer and leading wireless solutions provider. This will be ZTE’s first European WiMAX deployment but follows WiMAX wins in Asia and Africa.

ZTE will provide VeratNet with a nationwide WiMAX network which is due for completion by June 2007, serving almost 10 million subscribers with wireless broadband. In January 2006, the first phase of the deployment will be complete offering wireless broadband access to business subscribers in Serbia’s capital, Belgrade.

Under the terms of the contract, ZTE will supply VeratNet with its end-to-end WiMAX solution including the base stations as well as the CPEs (Customer Premises Equipment), which offer smooth scalability to an 802.16e (mobile WiMAX) network, roaming support architecture and product serialisation.

“Extending and improving access to broadband communications is a vital part of Serbia’s development and we are proud to be able to bring the most advanced wireless broadband technology currently available to our customers” said Mr Milomir Jevtic, Executive Director of VeratNet.

“We are excited to cooperate with VeratNet in this project as it clearly recognizes ZTE as a leading vendor of WiMAX networking solutions,” said Mr. Guo Jun, President of ZTE Europe. “ZTE is totally committed to provisioning VeratNet with a peerless broadband access experience, and we are particularly proud to be the company to install the first commercial WiMAX network for Serbia.”
