Jasper launches Global SIM solution to ease connected devices strategies

    -

Jasper Wireless has launched the world’s first commercial end-to-end Global SIM product after signing a technical partnership with Giesecke & Devrient (G&D).

The deal, targeted at the IoT market, will enable enterprises to remotely manage embedded SIMs – regardless of their location – over the air (OTA), making it easier to switch from one operator to another.

The product is based on Jasper’s Global SIM software module; G&D will run the backend secure data generation and the management of the OTA download, as well as the SIM software. It also allows the management of the SIM through an API, as well as device information and subscription management.

The two companies said the solution would help businesses to reduce the complexity of working with multiple operators across several different markets. The product could foster increased competition between operators in the M2M sphere, as a result.

According to recent research from Gartner, the internet of things market, excluding devices such as PCs, tablets and smartphones, will grow to 26 billion units by 2020. The market will generate incremental revenue of around €220 billion, mostly through managed services, by the same timescale.

Macario Namie, VP Marketing at Jasper, commented: “For many enterprises, their connected device business requires local service that meets regional regulations, performance standards and economic needs, yet in order to properly scale is streamlined over one standardized platform with a single SIM and single point of visibility and control. We’ve come together with G&D to offer what no-one else can – a single worldwide platform and single Global SIM with local service expressly designed for the mobile Internet of Things.”
