Nokia lifts lid on cloud-based proactive network problem solver

    -

Nokia has announced a new service platform that uses a mix of automation, virtualisation and analytics to adapt to changing network conditions.

Nokia AVA is a cloud-based platform that the vendor claimed offers “a cognitive approach that predicts faults and solves them rapidly”.

The vendor said AVA would help operators deliver a range of services across the network, spanning care, network implementation, planning and optimisation. The platform can support a range of multi-vendor products. A big data collection layer collates data from across the network and OSS.

China Mobile has been trialling the technology within the packet core. The platform automatically tracks 3,000 key performance indicators and has had a success rate of 98 percent accuracy in identifying network issues.

Nokia said the platform’s predictive optimisation reduces inter-system handovers by a fifth and increases data throughput by up to 37 percent.

Chris Antlitz, Telecom Senior Analyst, Technology Business Research said: “Nokia is taking its service delivery organisation to the next level of efficiency, setting the stage for a sustained competitive advantage over peers. Nokia’s focus on evolving its service delivery organization to a cognitive and contextual foundation that emphasizes remote service delivery using automated processes is the way forward for the industry, particularly as the telecom industry migrates to a software-defined, ICT-centric world.”

Wang Wei, Expert of network O&M department at China Mobile said: “By using big data analytics and Nokia Predictive Care we can proactively pinpoint and correct hidden issues by configuring network elements to cope with changing network conditions, giving us a powerful way to solve new problems automatically and rapidly. This reduces customer complaints and improves customer satisfaction significantly. We can now say that in our core network operations we could not work without Predictive Care for Packet Core.”

Igor Leprince,  Executive Vice President, Global Services at Nokia said: “This smart platform will revolutionize our service delivery. It uses machine learning and predictive analytics to automatically provide intelligent services over the cloud to help operators boost the performance of networks and increase availability to unprecedented levels. This is vital for operators wanting to meet the ever-rising needs of subscribers, win new IoT business and be ready for 5G.”
