Wind Tre takes FTTH to Matera with Open Fiber

News

Wind Tre has extended fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connectivity to the city of Matera in the Basilicata region of Italy thanks to its partnership with wholesale network Open Fiber.

The Italian telco said it is the first to offer high-speed fibre broadband in the city, which has been selected as one of the EU's European capitals of culture for 2019.

Using Open Fiber's network, Wind Tre can offer fixed broadband speeds of up to 1Gbps to homes and businesses in Matera. It is also bundling the technology with its various mobile offers.

Matera is front-of-mind for Wind Tre's rivals too.

Earlier this month Italian incumbent TIM switched on its first 5G New Radio antenna in Bari, in the neighbouring region of Puglia, and said it has been working with Fastweb and Huawei on extending the technology to Matera.

Wind Tre, meanwhile, is pushing ahead with the launch of FTTH services alongside Open Fiber. The past month alone has seen it announce the arrival of high-speed fibre connectivity in Treviso, Pioltello, Vimodrone and Abruzzo.
