Partner video: Sonal Bhutani and Mohit Bhargava explain to Annie Turner how Ericsson is helping CSPs transform BSS which is essential for monetising services beyond connectivity
Communication service providers (CSPs) globally want to offer differentiated connectivity services and accelerate their journey towards autonomous networks and AI. This shift entails transforming BSS – and Ericsson is a leader in BSS transformation.
Sonal Bhutani, Strategic Product Manager, and Mohit Bhargava, Product Marketing Manager in Ericsson OSS/BSS explain how Ericsson can contribute to CSPs monetising 5G by offering differentiated connectivity services and accelerating the adoption of automated networks (AN) and AI.
Bhutani began by outlining the challenges CSPs face in transforming their BSS, which include a fragmented BSS environment, and how Ericsson’s Digital Monetization Platform (DMP) can deliver an end-to-end solution at scale. She emphasises that CSPs have different starting points, timelines, business goals and ROI models.
The solution features a composable, modular architecture which allows CSPs to deploy according to their specific business needs and designed to support growth beyond simple connectivity.
Bhutani went on to talk about the real-life, commercial deployment for Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, where Ericsson took complete accountability of managed services from Levels 1 to 4, providing umbrella support for third-party infrastructure management.
In all, 8 million postpaid and 83 million prepaid subscribers were migrated to new platform with zero major incidents post go-live, achieving impressive results, for which she gave precise figures. Just one example is a 70% reduction in order to activation time.
Traditional CSPs aside, Bhargava explained that Ericsson is successful in mission critical networks for sectors including public safety, utilities, defence and railways, all of which require highly resilient, secure communication networks. Ericsson provides the BSS and OSS to support and run the networks, such as for the emergency services in Great Britain, in partnership with IBM, for more than 300,000 emergency responders.
He went on to outline how AI is helping Ericsson’s customers improve efficiency and customer experience, while boosting revenue. For instance, the vendor offers more than 20 AI and Gen-AI applications to accelerate BSS transformation, from guided selling to a product configuration assistant. One leading CSP in the US is using Ericsson’s AI to detect order fallout 30 minutes ahead of time, which consequently saw a 95% fall in order failures.
