Vodafone Romania, Digi Romania acquire Telekom Romania’s assets

-

The deal, announced almost a year ago, should complete by the end of October

Vodafone Romania and Digi Romania have entered into binding agreements with OTE to acquire separate parts of Telekom Romania, after implementing the Memorandum of Understanding, announced in October 2024

Vodafone will acquire TKRM and its post-paid customer base for €30 million (before standard closing adjustments), while Digi has agreed to acquire its pre-paid customer business. Both companies will also gain additional spectrum and towers as part of the transaction.

It is expected that the transaction will be completed in early October.

OTE sold its controlling stake in Telekom Romania’s fixed arm to Orange Romania in 2021, and Orange has gone on to consolidate its position in the fixed market. OTE then announced its intention to divest itself of the rest of Telekom Romania in 2023. In May, OTE said it had agreed in principle to sell its Romanian assets to an investment vehicle in which Digi Communications is the majority stakeholder.

Commenting on the latest deal, Margherita Della Valle said: This transaction strengthens our position in Romania, by increasing our local scale and unlocking significant synergy benefits. It supports our strategy of building strong positions in growing markets, which enables us to invest in the high-quality networks our customers rely on.”
