Vodafone has unveiled its Quality on Demand service in Germany, giving businesses and developers a way to improve mobile connections for customers using services such as digital payments, sports broadcasts and delivery services.
According to the telecoms giant, Germany is the first country to get Vodafone’s latest network application programming interface (API), with more countries expected to follow.
The aim is to keep services running reliably, even when lots of customers are using the network at the same time. It could also help developers create new services that depend on fast and stable connections.
Additionally, the Quality on Demand API lets businesses choose a network profile that suits what they need, aimed at applications that need high bandwidth and low latency. Businesses can choose how much bandwidth they need and how long they want to use it.
Vodafone is already testing the technology with other industry partners and a leading German broadcaster during a football match. The broadcaster can use the network to keep production teams connected and send video footage back to the team, the company stated.
Vodafone Director of Network APIs, Johanna Wood, said: “People use their smartphones to shop, bank, pay for public services and for entertainment services around ten times a day, making a stable mobile connection crucial for businesses that want to build customer loyalty.
“Our Quality on Demand API gives them a competitive advantage by letting them tailor network quality dynamically for specific use cases.”
