The new Spanish wholesale fibre provider, FibreCo, is now the country’s largest, formed by the merger of MasOrange and Vodafone’s fibre units in August

Blanca Ceña has been appointed CEO of FibreCo, the new wholesale joint venture created by the merger between MasOrange and Vodafone’s fibre units in August. It is Spain’s largest wholesale fibre broadband provider.

Ceña, who is Spanish, worked at Vodafone from 1995 to 2020, and for the last five years was MD at Vodafone’s Vantage Towers. MasOrange holds 58% of the JV, Vodafone Spain has 17% and Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, GIC, has 25%.

Each operator will contribute about 12 million premises passed and almost 5 million customers to FiberCo, guaranteeing the exclusivity of the network for both parties while each will continue to maintain their infrastructures.

MásMóvil and France’s Orange merged to form MásOrange in March 2024 to form Spain’s largest operator valued at about €19 billion with almost 37 million mobile and fixed customers.

Vodafone sold its Spanish opco to UK investment firm Zegona Communications, for €5 billion, in May 2024 in what was described as Europe’s biggest reverse takeover. As part of the deal, it continues to operate under the Vodafone brand.
