The FastwebAI Suite is based on MIIA (Modello Italiano di Intelligenza Artificiale), an Italian-native LLM developed and trained by Fastweb
Fastweb+Vodafone has launch of FastwebAI Suite, a platform of GenAI-based services and tools dedicated to businesses and government. The operator said it is the first Italian telco to introduce sovereign AI-based solutions. The FastwebAI Suite consists of end-to-end solutions located in Italy and an AI platform that integrates secure and regulation-compliant generative AI and AI agents, ensuring data protection.
According to the operator, FastwebAI Suite ensures full compliance with the European AI Regulation (AI Act), privacy laws, and copyright regulations. It does this by leveraging Fastweb’s nationwide data centres, the Nvidia DGX SuperPOD supercomputer (operational since July), and the FastwebMIIA language model. MIIA is natively trained in Italian using data from certified, authoritative sources, and governed with full transparency, alongside cloud, edge computing and cybersecurity platforms designed for maximum protection.
Fastweb has made MIIA and its NeXXt AI Factory supercomputing infrastructure available to a wide range of entities. Several organisations are actively using or collaborating on MIIA including the Italian Senate, Istat (Italian National Institute of Statistics) and Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Milan-Bicocca. Private users include publishers Mondadori Group and Bignami Editori.
A distinctive feature of the new AI suite is its strict approach to data segregation, with data remaining confined within the specific application environments for which the solutions were developed, without any reuse or exposure to external contexts.
FastwebAI Suite was presented during an event held in Rome at Spazio Colonna. “With FastwebAI Suite, we are offering businesses and public administrations a set of solutions that guarantee security and full control over their data, thanks to the excellence of our infrastructures and our end-to-end approach,” said Fastweb+Vodafone CEO Walter Renna. “Today, we want to help bridge the technological gap in AI between Italy and the rest of Europe by promoting the creation of an ecosystem involving public and private players that can play a leading role on the international stage.”
Cyber credentials
Building on their own internal experience integrating AI into business processes, the companies are offering a tailored consulting approach supported by specialists in AI, cloud and cybersecurity.
The services are delivered through the FastwebAI Factory, powered by Nvidia’s Supercomputer, and brought together in the FastwebAI Suite. Among the tools included is FastwebAI Work, a platform designed to boost employee productivity. It integrates a chatbot for real-time responses, a dedicated AI assistant to streamline communication and collaboration, and tools for advanced document analysis, text translation and creative image generation.
FastwebAI Suite also features FastwebAI Agents, which allows technical teams to design and automate AI-based processes using intelligent software agents. These agents can autonomously carry out specific tasks and solve problems based on AI-driven logic. For organisations further along in their AI adoption, FastwebAI Custom offers a modular, end-to-end solution tailored to specific needs.
The suite is designed with compliance in mind, supporting secure and responsible AI deployment in line with the EU AI Act and other regulatory requirements. In the coming months, FastwebAI Suite will get new services, including FastwebAI Governance&Compliance, which allows organisations to manage AI-based projects by monitoring their progress, measuring their effectiveness and return on investment, and ensuring their compliance with current regulations, and FastwebAI Security, the solution designed to ensure the secure use of third-party AI systems.
Supercomputer hackathon
During the event, Fastweb also launched the FastwebAI Hackathon, a competition open to students and start-ups that will take place from 11-12 September. For 24 hours non-stop, participants will be able to leverage the functionalities of the AI suite and the computational power of Fastweb+Vodafone’s supercomputer to develop new ideas and innovative projects exploring the frontiers of GenAI.
Projects will be evaluated by a jury of experts, who will award the prize to the most innovative idea. The winning team will receive exclusive 30-day access to a DGX compute node of the FastwebAI Factory supercomputer. A special award will also be given to the most inclusive project, which will earn access to the Master’s program in Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion organised by Fondazione Brodolini. There’s a sovereign service we can all support.
