Virgin Media O2 (VMO2) has launched 5G Standalone (5G SA) services in Bristol.
The service, which the telecom giant calls 5G+, is now available across Bristol, including the city centre, Harbourside, surrounding neighbourhoods and Avonmouth.
As a result, eligible O2 customers with compatible devices and plans can access the network at no extra cost.
The move is designed to provide faster speeds, a more reliable connection and lower latency, reducing delays when using mobile data on the 5G network.
The Bristol rollout is part of Virgin Media O2’s £700 million Mobile Transformation Plan, which is funding upgrades to its network across the UK throughout 2026.
As part of the wider investment programme, Virgin Media O2 is installing new masts and small cells, upgrading its 4G and 5G networks and deploying new spectrum. It is also using more automation to improve network performance.
O2 Director of Mobile Access Engineering, Professor Robert Joyce, said: “Reliable connectivity is increasingly essential to how people live, work and do business, which is why we’re continuing to invest in strengthening our network in the city.
“This rollout is part of our £700 million Mobile Transformation Plan and brings 5G+ to more customers across Bristol. With faster speeds, lower latency and improved reliability, the upgrade will deliver high-quality coverage that helps our customers stay connected when it matters most.”
