Bango to provide operator billing for Mozilla Firefox OS marketplace

    -

Mobile payments and analytics vendor Bango is hopping on the Firefox OS bandwagon, providing one-click operator billing integration with Mozilla’s Firefox Marketplace online app store.

Bango’s Payments Platform processes payments from digital content purchases, which pass into the cloud from the subscriber’s handset, where the identity of the subscriber is authenticated, including information about what type of device is being used, to location of the user and who their operator is.

The payment technology then selects the biller, price points, subscriptions available, the country and currency, taxes and customer care, while the analytics part of the platform catalogues the information gained from the subscriber, while looking at payment reports, application use and other types of data.

The platform is currently processing payments for app stores like Google Play, BlackBerry World, Windows Store, Facebook, Opera Software and EA Mobile as well as at least 17 tier-one operators and payment gateways like Visa and MasterCard.

Firefox Marketplace has launched for Firefox OS customers in Spain and Colombia through Telefónica, while Poland has gone live through T-Mobile, following the Global Payment Services Agreement signed between Bango and Mozilla in May (read: Telefónica Digital and Bango create m-payment platform for app stores).

“Firefox Marketplace is the first app store to embrace operator billing from launch. We’re proud that Mozilla has chosen Bango, and we are pleased to be opening-up direct operator billing for our partners in these exciting, emerging smartphone markets,” said Ray Anderson, Bango’s CEO.

“For many consumers in fast growth markets, a Firefox OS device will be their first smartphone. Operator billing from Bango enables every user of a smartphone to pay for apps and other digital content with one-click, without exception and even over Wi-Fi.”
