Colt expands fibre network across Europe, Asia and Africa

-

Colt has unveiled plans to invest further in its global network amid growing demand for connectivity to support AI.

The expansion will see Colt strengthen its network across North America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, while upgrading fibre connections and extending its reach in several European cities.

As a result, Colt plans to increase network capacity to support speeds of up to 400Gb, alongside further investment in US coast-to-coast routes and subsea cables connecting North America with Europe and Asia.

In Africa, the company is opening a new point of presence in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is also expanding connectivity in Dubai and Türkiye as demand for digital infrastructure grows across the Middle East.

Meanwhile, in Japan, Colt is building a new fibre route stretching more than 600km between Osaka and Fukuoka, with plans to extend its network further across western Japan.

The company is also expanding in Warsaw, Bordeaux, Zaragoza, Berlin and Frankfurt, taking its total number of metropolitan networks to 55.

Other improvements include an upgrade to the Marseille-Milan fibre connection, a major route linking two European digital infrastructure hubs.

Colt Technology Services, EVP of Infrastructure and Connectivity Sales, Joe Scattareggia said: “AI readiness is about more than building capacity. It’s about connecting data, cloud and compute at the scale AI demands.

“As hyperscalers, neoscalers and wholesale providers build for the next wave of AI, connectivity becomes a critical differentiator. Success will depend on collaboration across carriers, cloud providers, data centres and technology partners.

He added: “By continuing to invest in our global digital infrastructure, we’re bringing those ecosystems together and giving customers the reach, control and confidence they need to build, scale and grow.”
