DT is making space for business broadband in Germany

-

The operator group is using Starlink to offer enterprise broadband: it previously announced it would launch D2D services in 10 European countries via Starlink in 2028

Deutsche Telekom (DT) is adding Satellite Internet Access by Starlink (SIA) to its portfolio for large enterprises and public sector organisations, using the Starlink constellation. SIA is to provide “reliable connectivity at sites where fiber and mobile networks are not yet fully available or where additional redundancy is required” from

Telekom Deutschland (Deutsche Telekom’s brand in Germany) says it is only network operator in the country offering satellite-based business broadband as a fully managed service. SIA as a turnkey package: DT handles installation, network integration and service provision. Business capacities are given priority to ensure stable performance, even under high load.

Customers can request system specialists to support ongoing operations and are available on-site when needed. Billing is via the Telekom invoice.

“Reliability is our promise: with Starlink, the sky becomes the backup line. The solution ensures connectivity exactly where it is essential for operations – on large construction sites, in remote areas or in crisis situations,” says Klaus Werner, Managing Director, Business Customers at Telekom Deutschland (the brand name for Deutsche Telekom in Germany.

Companies can experience SIA live at regional Digital X events and connect directly with experts.

Just to be clear – SIA versus D2D

DT says SIA is a stationary broadband solution for Telekom’s business customers – a temporary replacement and backup for company locations such as offices, branches or construction sites – especially where no terrestrial connectivity is available. The solution uses panel satellite antennas (see picture above) and delivers speeds of up to 400 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload, enabling demanding applications such as VPN connections or full site networking. SIA has been available to Telekom business customers since spring 2026.

Direct-to-Device (D2D) services via satellite extend mobile coverage for personal connectivity – SMS, voice and data – in areas without network coverage. Compatible smartphones connect directly to satellites outdoors without additional hardware. D2D is designed to complement on-the-go usage and is expected to complete the “best network” vision by 2028.

Things looking up in 2028

In March, DT announced it “closes the last whitespots in Europe with Starlink satellite-to-mobile” expanding its network coverage in 10 European countries, including Germany, in 2028 through D2D in partnership with Starlink.

Abdu Mudesir, Board Member for Product and Technology at Deutsche Telekom, said, “There are regions where expansion is especially complex due to topographical conditions or official constraints. We want to ensure reliable connectivity for our customers in those areas as well. That is why we are strategically complementing our network with satellite-to-mobile connectivity. For us, it is clear: connectivity creates security and trust. And we deliver. Everywhere.”

Stephanie Bednarek, VP of Starlink Sales, noted at the time, “This agreement will be the first-of-its-kind in Europe to launch Starlink’s V2 next-generation technology that will expand on data, voice and messaging by providing broadband directly to mobile phones.“
