O2 expands UK public sector portfolio with suite of ICT services

    -

Telefónica UK has been named as a supplier on Crown Commercial Service’s (CCS) new Network Services 2 framework (RM3808).

Network Services 2 provides public bodies in the UK with access to many different kinds of telecoms services.

They include networks, voice and data provision such as telephones (fixed landline and mobile), internet access, Wi-Fi, radio, and audio and video conferencing.

    Public procurement

O2 can now offer voice and data provision, internet access and audio and video conferencing to the public sector, as it does the private sector, moving it away from primarily offering mobile services.

The operator says the listing follows a stringent three-year application process that required O2 to participate in CCS supplier engagement and then a competitive tender process that complied with the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).

The company has now been named as a supplier for services in Lots 1-4 and 6-8 of the framework, each of which has between six and 33 suppliers. They cover: data access; local connectivity, traditional telephony, inbound telephony, mobile voice and data, paging and alerting and video conferencing.

CCS has now awarded 10 lots and expects to award Lots 5, 10 and 13 in due course for IP telephony, unified communication and contact centres.

    Maximum commercial value

Matthew Spencer, Head of Public Sector Sales at O2, said, “We know that making services easy to procure is a major priority for our public sector customers – so the news that we have been named as a supplier on the new Network Services 2 framework is a huge milestone for all of us at O2.

“It means we can offer our entire product range of ICT services to public sector and non-profit organisations.

Crown Commercial Service supports the public sector to achieve maximum commercial value when procuring common goods and services. In 2018/19, CCS claimed it helped the public sector achieve commercial benefits worth £945 million “supporting world-class public services that offer best value for taxpayers”.

Public sector customers can access O2’s services in two ways: as a direct award from catalogue via the government eMarketplace, or via Further Competition (for responses to a statement of requirements). More information can be found here.
