Subex instils a Hypersense for Digital Trust in Ethio Telecom

    -

New 5G network will have AI fraud fighting system

Ethiopian flagship telco Ethio Telecom has appointed Subex to protect it with Hypersense, a form of artificial intelligence (AI) that fights fraud by tracking the Digital Trust rating of each of its 50 million subscribers.

In 1994 Subex invented a way to establish Digital Trust for businesses across the globe. Since then, it claims, it has been fine tuning its hypersenses to keep up with the Digital Trust rating system, which can change by the millisecond. The later activity presents a huge workload for any telco. HyperSense, a system of AI orchestration which creates an ‘holistic defence mechanism’, will replace Ethio Telecom’s existing rules-based fraud management system. The new system, with its more dynamic approach and constant evolution, will help the telco to instantly detect new and unknown threats as they happen.

The former national telecom operator for Ethiopia has recently launched a pre-commercial 5G network and wants to sustain its market leadership by providing high-quality and inventive offerings, it says. HyperSense must make its defences more accurate, pervasive and fast.

Subex’s artificially intelligent hypersenses tackle multiple devious devices such as SIM Boxes, Spoofs and SMS. They can spot fraudulent activity within roaming, subscriptions and handset usage. Hypersence can quickly size up mobile money and credit management risks and will provide revenue assurance and fraud management. It will secure business lines, improve the customer experience and help managers make better decisions, promised Shankar Roddam, Subex’s whole-time director and chief operating officer. It should also lower the telcos running costs and shrink its carbon footprint, said Roddam.

“Ethio Telecom will now benefit from a holistic risk management approach as it gears up to provide 5G services,” said Roddam, who said ET has always been at the fore in the fight against fraud. As the threat landscape evolves, Subex’s artificial intelligence will be vital in safeguarding our business and customers,” said Tsegaye Emmanuel, Chief Information Security Officer, Ethio Telecom.
