Telia has announced plans to cut around 900 positions across its business as part of a wider restructuring aimed at reducing costs and streamlining processes.
As a result, the telecoms giant is targeting annual gross savings of SEK 1 billion through workforce reductions and other cost-cutting measures.
The planned cuts will affect both employees and external consultants across the group. Telia also intends to transfer around 220 positions, mainly from its central Technology unit, to its country operations.
The changes are expected to be completed by December 31, 2026, subject to union negotiations, the company revealed.
Under the proposals, Telia’s central group functions will focus mainly on strategy, setting targets, governance and monitoring performance, with the restructuring expected to result in charges of around SEK 600 million in the fourth quarter of 2026, with most of the cash impact falling in 2027.
Telia President and CEO, Patrik Hofbauer, said: “We’re building the future Telia. Our efforts so far have put us on the right track, and further localisation means doubling down on what we know gets results.
“We must always become even simpler, faster and more efficient in everything we do. We want to empower our countries more, get the utmost from our common Technology unit and other Group Functions, and sharpen Telia’s edge in a very competitive market. Crucially, we want to continue investing in great products and experiences for our customers.
“We are committed to constant improvement, and this proposed next step is made from a position of strength. We recognize it will involve difficult decisions and will require support for all our people. We believe that Telia can perform even better, and we see an opportunity to become a leading European telco.”
