Broadcom boosts small cell portfolio with new SoCs

    -

Semiconductor maker Broadcom Corporation has unveiled a new series of next generation devices promising better performance for residential, business and outdoor markets.

The vendor said its BCM61755 and BCN61765 system-on-a-chip devices build on its existing residential and small cell products which are deployed in over two million small cells to date.

Its third generation low-power small cell baseband processors will double the capacity for operators and carriers to offload data traffic from increasingly congested 3G, 4G/LTE mobile and Wi-Fi networks, Broadcom added.

They will deliver data rates up to 300 megabits per second helping smartphone and tablet users to get better internet connections, uninterrupted streaming video and improved call coverage, whilst helping operators effectively manage spectrum assets.

The small cell platform also includes support for Wi-Fi offload complementing small cell technologies and further helping operators manage growing mobile traffic, through its dual-band concurrent and Wi-Fi technologies.

Its BCM61735 is designed for the low-cost, lowest power and small footprint required by the residential CPE markets. The BCM61755 and BCM61765 provide advanced enterprise and venue features including increased user count, range and mobility and carrier aggregation.

“Our new generation of residential and triple-mode enterprise baseband processors for small cells provides global carriers with a powerful solution as 3G technology matures and global operators prepare to transition to 4G/LTE mobile networks,” said Greg Fischer, Broadcom vice president and general manager for Broadband Carrier Access. “Building on more than two million field deployments of our small cell technology Broadcom’s new BCM617x5 SoCs allow carriers to meet consumer demand for a consistently high quality, high performance mobile experience.”

Broadcom has also launched its new 3G/4G LTE RF transceiver, the BCM61297, which combines with its small cell SoCs to reduce bill-of-material and better manage small cell interference on all carrier aggregation band combinations approved by 3GPP.
