A1 Telekom Austria in alliance with Invitech Hungary

Builds Vienna to Budapest fibre link

A1 Telekom Austria  (A1 Aus) and Hungary’s Invitech ICT Services have improved their international links with a new fibre connection from Vienna to Budapest. The cross border alliance to fortify their network brought together Austria’s top carrier service and one of Hungary’s foremost technology service providers.

The A1 Group has declared a strategy to develop and ally with IT expertise in order to solve more complex technological problems for the private, public and government organisations it services. In May A1 Telekom Austria acquired Bulgarian ICT company Stemo a privately held company founded by four computer specialists to develop software and deliver computer equipment. Stemo, recognised by analysts as a leader in telecoms infrastructure, operates independently but offers its knowledge of finance, technical infrastructure, sales and customer service to its new owner.

Further down the river Danube Budapest-based Invitech has achieved an infrastructure of 11,000km of highly secured cable by running its ducts alongside the tracks of Hungary’s main railway network. This has placed its communications cables and hubs at the heart of central and eastern Europe with 11 border crossings to neighbouring countries. It also around 3,500 square metres of data centre capacity.

“A continuous expansion of our backbone is an absolute necessity,” said Judit Albers, A1 Telekom Austria’s director of international business. Though its services and products are based on its pan-European A1 Telekom Austria Group backbone, the infrastructure of its subsidiaries in seven countries in central and eastern Europe makes it reliant on partnerships with other telecommunications providers.

On the other side of the border Hungary’s Invitech said it can now raise the quality of the services provided to its business customers and improve the options on offer for future transit needs in the region. Since the telco and the IT networking company have distinct ‘fully diverse’ routes and ring- fenced customer bases they both can make instant gains without compromise while being able to ‘guarantee the safest connectivity between the two capitals’.

It’s a question of build and they will come, according to Albert Kis, Invitech’s COO of infrastructure and carrier services. “A top infrastructure leads to more services and results in the satisfaction and loyalty of our customers,” said Kis. “Our long-term presence as [a] trusted own network service provider on the Hungarian market, and the cooperation with A1 Telekom Austria group make us primary option for regional needs and guarantees the highest customer experience.”
