Axell Wireless bought by Cobham to expand DAS, wireless coverage

    -

Distributed antenna systems (DAS) provider Axell Wireless has been acquired by UK-based RF and antenna vendor Cobham for a fee that could rise to €100 million.

Ian Brown, CEO of Axell Wireless, said the deal gave his company “a great opportunity to extend our leadership in the DAS and coverage market.”

He added: “Both Axell and Cobham share similar values based on innovation, technological leadership, quality and trust. We expect as a result of joining Cobham to be able to present our customers with an enhanced set of solutions, complementary technologies, and a wider and more comprehensive global presence.”

The deal will give Cobham, which focuses on land, mobile and airborne antenna systems, mast systems, audio and radio management systems, as well as radar and satellite communications, access to the rapidly growing DAS and wireless coverage market.

Its systems are used across the commercial, defence and security markets, including deep space and on the ocean bed.

Fred Cahill, VP Antenna Systems Strategic Business Unit for Cobham, commented: “We are very excited to enter the DAS and coverage market with the acquisition of Axell and support Ian Brown and his team in their ambition of becoming the overall market leader. We see many sales, R & D and operating synergies with our existing businesses and look forward to realising them for the benefit of both Axell and Cobham customers over the coming years.”
