MWC – Axell Wireless launches “DIGI mini”

    -

MWC – Axell Wireless, the worldwide provider of wireless coverage solutions, today launched the world’s first family of digital mini repeaters providing 2G, 3G and 4G coverage in all cellular frequency bands based on Axell Wireless’ patented DSP technology.

Priced to compete head to head with existing single band analogue products, the dual band DIGI mini sets a new price performance point in the industry and will enable mobile operators to cost effectively provide coverage to all of their business customers, whether an SME (small and medium enterprise) or a major enterprise. With, some 80 per cent of mobile phone traffic now originating from within buildings and the rapid growth of data applications, the need to have strong coverage levels for 3G and 4G services is greater than ever. The DIGI mini allows mobile operators to provide comprehensive in-building coverage in a simple and cost effective manner.

The DIGI mini is available as both a dual band and single band variant and units can be simply connected to provide a ‘tri’ and ‘quad’ band combination if required. European frequency bands available include 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz, and 2600MHz but any combination of 2G, 3G or 4G services can be run on any band thanks to Axell’s unique digital filtering capability. With further spectrum allocation at a premium many operators are now looking to “re-farm” existing frequency bands, running different services within one band (e.g. GSM and UMTS in the 900MHz band). The DIGI mini fully supports this application without the cost associated with deploying multiple repeaters.

The DIGI mini provides 20dBm per band output power providing coverage in buildings up to 2,500 square metres. It provides up to 6 sub-band filtering per unit and contains an “oscillation protection” algorithm, meaning the repeater will never go into oscillation. The DIGI mini can be installed simply on a wall, or in a rack, and it can also be controlled using simple “auto configuration” settings accessed via a web interface, it can be activated and fully functional within a few minutes. For integration into a NOC (network operations centre) SNMP support is also provided. Connection to the device is via Ethernet or via an optional wireless modem.

“Axell is once again demonstrating its technology leadership with the world’s first family of digital mini repeaters. With a data tsunami hitting the wireless world caused by the global uptake of smart phones, and other connected devices, operators are facing the complex challenge of providing high quality data coverage whilst ARPU (average revenue per user) is in decline. With a radical new price performance point, coupled with future proof architecture supporting any wireless technology, the DIGI mini directly addresses that need” commented Ian Brown, CEO Axell Wireless.

The DIGI mini is available for immediate ordering with first shipments following shortly thereafter.
