Boldyn Networks has deployed private 5G technology in West Sussex to support smarter livestock monitoring, giving farmers near real-time insight into conditions inside livestock buildings.
The deployment is being delivered through Growing Sussex, a public sector-led programme involving West Sussex County Council, Boldyn Networks and agritech specialist Pneumonitor.
The partners are connecting Pneumonitor’s environmental monitoring device to Boldyn’s private 5G network, allowing farmers to monitor conditions directly inside livestock pens.
The system uses 5G Reduced Capability (RedCap) technology to transmit information from livestock buildings, according to the company, the move could help make connected monitoring more practical and scalable for farms.
The technology could also help farmers respond to challenges linked to extreme weather, including high temperatures. By providing more timely information about conditions inside livestock buildings, monitoring could support animal health and welfare while helping farmers make faster decisions, the company said.
