    One of the main tenets of this annual conference is showcasing innovation. In that context, The catalyst program, provides an excellent opportunity for communications service providers, vendors, and the extended ecosystem to collaborate by testing and validating cutting-edge proof-of-concepts.  

    This year, Oracle Communications will again participate in the collaborative program to put our innovative solutions to the test, exploring automated quality validation for enterprise sales and evolving the digital experience of SATCOM products.

    Oracle and TM Forum

    Originating in October 1997, The TM Forum catalyst program was devised to facilitate a different way of creating standards, rather than just pure documentation. At Oracle, we’ve been a champion to support better and evolving standards that enable cross-vendor interoperability. This is especially true with the rapidly evolving landscape of new networking technologies, IT architectures, innovative services, and new use cases.

    As a founding member of the ODA Component Accelerator project and a signatory to the Open API & Open Digital Architecture Manifesto, Oracle supports an open, standards-based approach for the industry. We have embraced the TMF Open APIs in numerous catalysts and across our portfolio with widespread adoption and ongoing formal certifications.

    We’ve been annual participants in TMF’s catalyst program, winning awards and recognitions in the process, like our 5G Chargers catalyst in which we were awarded Best Use of Open Digital Framework.

    Catalysts offer a uniquely collaborative environment where bright minds and disruptors across the industry come together to tackle critical industry challenges and implement innovative ideas. These projects leverage key TM Forum best practices and standards to ensure interoperability and reuse across multiple vendors.

    They also help to automate processes, drive agility, and reduce costs and risk. This holistic microcosm for collaboration helps champion in better standards for the industry, as well as offers a launch point to put these innovations into real practice.

    Oracle catalysts premiering at DTW23

    This year, Oracle will be driving two catalysts that we anticipate can have great potential for real-world impact—both in the traditional communications service provider market and the non-terrestrial satellite communications market—collaborating with industry leaders like the BT Group, Verizon, OneWeb, and SES.

    Automated quality validation for enterprise connectivity services

    In this catalyst, experts from Oracle Communications, BT Group, Verizon, Juniper Networks, and more will do a deep-dive into the qualification, validation, and ongoing assurance of mission-critical enterprise network services. Today’s service providers are under immense pressure to deliver on network investments by monetising superior quality of service (QoS) under faster sales cycles.

    Every sales opportunity relies on estimating the network’s capacity to deliver QoS, and yet there is no precise way to certify service quality until it’s too late. This leads to imprecise sales planning, sub-standard quality, long sales cycles, and unmonetised capacity.

    This catalyst will serve to demonstrate how the automation of the orchestration, and validation of quality of services before they are provisioned onto the network, enables service providers to accelerate sales cycles and avoid expensive remediation after the fact.

    With on-demand service orchestration, service simulation, and automatic service validation handled before an offering is given to the customer, quality can be monitored and assured throughout ordering, activation, and delivery.

    Evolving the digital experience of SATCOM products

    Space has become the next frontier for communications, providing global coverage with broadband-like speeds and low latency. Satellite communications (SATCOM) also offers a unique advantage to provide services to remote regions of the globe, where it has not been economically feasible to deploy terrestrial communications networks. While the space race is on, there’s a deep industry need to create standards around their use and services.

    In this catalyst, subject matter experts from Oracle Communications, Airbus, OneWeb, SES, and others will do a technical deep dive to demonstrate how TMF standards can be applied to deliver complex SATCOM services spanning connectivity from LEO/MEO/GEO satellite fleet operators and their distribution partners. The SATCOM market requires interoperability across software partners and SATCOM providers but often, facilitating the operations between them can be a galactic hurdle.

    As we continue to see SATCOM services evolve both in technology and in market demand, it will be critical for the industry to define standardised satellite connectivity technologies, products and their related APIs.

    This catalyst will use TMF standards to demonstrate a modern IT architecture for SATCOM providers and use cases. In doing so, they’ll define interoperability standards based on TMF Open APIs, building on existing standards.

    TM Forum’s Catalyst programs offers an opportunity to introduce real-world solutions to critical industry challenges. They also allow us to pressure-test innovation by bringing industry experts together and to drive change that can impact the standards CSPs hold themselves accountable to around the world.
