It is the first operator in the Nordic countries to do so: the service relies on the SIM and an API in tandem for sign-ups and log-ins to apps
DNA is to offer its customers Google Firebase’s Phone Number Verification (PNV) service. Firebase PNV checks a mobile subscriber’s phone number directly with the operator without needing verification via SMS. Firebase PNV retrieves the phone number directly from the operator through an API interface for verification.
Initially the service will only work on Android smartphones and will be available later this spring, free of charge to all DNA customers.
The SIM card in the user’s device and the operator jointly verify the phone number for any given application with a single tap. This makes speeds up signing up to a new service and subsequent log-ins faster, more secure and less error‑prone than text-based verification codes that are input manually.
When an application uses the new service, a new user consent will display before the phone number is shared.
“With this verification service, DNA’s Android customers will have an even smoother and more secure way to verify their phone numbers across various services. This perfectly supports our vision for a smarter and safer tomorrow,” says Anna-Mari Ylihurula, Senior Vice President, Corporate Business at DNA.
