Orange has acquired technology platform, Dome, for an undisclosed sum.
In a bid to strengthen its secure communications offering for defence and critical infrastructure, the telecoms giant has acquired the platform from French technology company Obvios and integrated the experts behind its development into its teams.
Dome is a cloud-native software platform designed to help organisations deploy secure and sovereign communications networks in critical environments.
The acquisition builds on the telecom giant’s focus on defence and critical infrastructure, following the creation of its Defence & Security division and the launch of Orange Drone 360.
Orange is also expanding its private 5G capabilities to provide organisations with greater control over their networks, security and business continuity.
As a result, Dome provides a secure private 5G core that allows organisations to build and operate their own mobile networks independently, while also working alongside public telecoms infrastructure.
The technology is aimed at sectors including defence, civil security, energy, transport and emergency services.
Potential uses include drone and autonomous system operations, military bases, deployable networks in remote or contested areas, port and airport surveillance and real-time monitoring of critical infrastructure, the company revealed.
Orange Business, Head of Defense and Security, Nassima Auvray, said: “This acquisition marks a strategic milestone in strengthening and specialising our offerings and expertise, particularly in hybrid network solutions.
“It accelerates our development in private 5G, enabling us to deliver sovereign, innovative solutions tailored to the security and operational needs of defense and critical infrastructure operators in Europe.”
