Leukert given credit for “successful transformation of [DT’s] IT and Digital platforms, products and services” and being a key contributor to better CX which fuelled DT’s recent growth
BT has appointed Peter Leukert (pictured) to the role of Chief Digital Officer, responsible for leading BT’s Digital unit and overseeing the company’s digital transformation.
Leukert is currently Group Chief Information Officer at Deutsche Telekom and will join BT on 1 September this year and be a member of the Executive Committee, reporting to CEO Allison Kirkby.
Leukert has been Group Chief Information Officer at Deutsche Telecom (DT) since 2017 where, according to BT, “He has led a significant and successful transformation of [its] IT and Digital platforms, products and services, and been a key contributor to the customer experience led transformation that has fuelled DT’s recent growth.”
Previously Leukert held roles at McKinsey & Co, Commerzbank and the New York Stock Exchange in Germany and the US.
Exciting times?
Allison Kirkby, Chief Executive, BT, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Peter to BT. He joins the business at an exciting time as we focus on simultaneously investing in the UK’s leading fixed and mobile networks while transforming our operations to radically improve how we serve our customers.”
Leukert added, “I’m thrilled to be joining BT. The opportunity to transform and simplify BT’s operations will improve customer outcomes and drive sustainable business growth, and I am really excited to get started.”
In the meantime, Howard Watson will continue to lead the Digital unit alongside his responsibilities as Chief Networks and Security Officer. The Chief Digital Officer’s role became vacant when Harmeen Mehta left BT in September last year.
