    Orange releases data services stats

    -

Orange has release its Digital Media Index  – detailed stats of user numbers, by service, for its UK subscribers.

The Index lists 15.5 million customers caross pre-pay and contract, with 1.6 million Internet customers and 420,000 Livebox customers.

Messaging: More than a billion texts were sent each month, with over seven million picture messages. Paul Jevons, Products and Innovation Director for Orange, said the MMS numbers represented a surge in picture messaging with an increase of over a third (37%) in numbers sent.  “With over 58% of our customers now able to send MMS messages from their phone, not only are more messages being sent but companies are starting to use picture messaging with innovative technology such as quick response (QR) in their marketing campaigns.” Jevons added.

Mobile Internet: Orange has 1.268 million 3G customers in the UK, with its Orange World portal receiving 250,000 daily repeat visitors on average, and 2.34 million monthly users on average between May and July this year.

Mobile Search: Orange released details of the words which had seen the highest growth in its search engine. Hard to know here if these are the most common search terms or the ones with the growth. For what it’s worth search for the word “Chat” was up 364%; “Lottery” up 252%;  Music up 200%, Social Networks up 182% and Ringtones up 155%. Matthew Kirk, Director of Portals for Orange, said: “The sharp rise in search terms such as chat and social networks gives us a real insight into how mobile internet usage trends are changing.” Perhaps, or it possibly gives us a real insight into what Orange wants us to think are mobile internet usage trends.

Over a million games were downloaded in July, and 295,000  music downloads are served every month, up 155 on the last Orange Digital Index.
