Volantis speeds mobile application development with new look Multi-Channel Server

    -

Volantis, the world’s leading supplier of technology for delivering the mobile internet, announces the immediate availability of Multi-Channel Server (MCS) version 3.

MCS 3 increases developer productivity within mobile content providers, mobile network operators and enterprises by integrating with the Eclipse Platform, the leading open source Integrated Development Environment (IDE). MCS 3 also delivers performance enhancements and extended support for dynamic content integration that supports Volantis’ newest product, Distributed Service Broker, also announced today.

In MCS 3, developers use Eclipse and Volantis plug-ins to realise immediate productivity gains, as well as being able to leverage other plug-ins, skills and resources of the industry’s leading IDE. Eclipse developers can also exploit the familiarity of having the same environment for Volantis as well as for their other development projects.

“Mobile data access is rapidly reaching critical mass – according to recent figures, there are 1.4 billion pages browsed per month in the UK alone, double the figure for last year. This growth is bigger than SMS,” says Mark Watson, CTO of Volantis. “The challenge organisations face is to rapidly exploit this trend whilst keeping the cost of development low for the growing number of mobile devices. 3, AT&T Wireless, FHM and several other EMAP brands, FT.com, and lastminute.com all leverage Volantis technology to achieve effective content and service delivery.”

    MCS New Feature Highlights:

Productive and integrated Eclipse-based development environment – with a flexible project-style model, wizard-based creation, intuitive visual editors and an open plug-in interface

Easier automatic support of new devices – using the enhanced device-update wizard

Integrated Image Conversion Service – providing efficient transcoding of digital assets from one high quality source

Simplified and flexible menu provision – mark-up based support for multiple menu-types, including grid-based or “Home Deck” presentation for mobile portals

Enhanced content integration – with additional update and transactional interaction with SQL databases

Extended device recognition and device support capabilities
