Vantage Data Centers expands London campus after Asian spending spree

The DigitalBridge-backed DC builder and operator opens second London campus and sets its sights on an APAC expansion

Vantage Data Centers has announced a trio of major developments: the opening of a second London campus, a $1.6 billion investment geared toward expanding its Asia-Pacific platform, and the acquisition of the Johor, Malaysia campus from data centre builder and operator Yondr. Meanwhile, Yondr Group has signalled a strategic pivot, shifting its growth focus toward North America and Europe.

Vantage’s second London campus, called LHR2, in Park Royal is due to open at the end of September. The 194,000 sq ft facility will deliver 20 MW of IT capacity. Vantage said the project is expected to contribute around £250 million to the local economy, reflecting jobs, procurement and services linked to the development.

The campus also features a what the company is calling a striking public art installation titled 11 Million Dots, created by local artist Rafael El Baz and consultancy Loom. The facade, spanning six storeys, draws on ambient street and industrial sounds recorded in Park Royal; those sounds were converted into binary code and waveforms and transformed into perforations in the building’s skin. It is both a nod to Park Royal’s industrial heritage and part of its revitalisation.

LHR2 is built with sustainability in mind – a pretty universal claim these days –  aiming for BREEAM Excellent status, with features such as air and water source heat pumps, connection to the local district heating network for waste heat reuse, and a low overall power usage effectiveness. Once fully developed, Vantage’s UK campus portfolio – across London (LHR1 & LHR2) and Cardiff – will offer some 223 MW of IT capacity across more than 2.6 million sq ft of data centre space.

$1.6 bn APAC platform

In parallel, Vantage has secured $1.6 billion in funding led by an affiliate of Singapore-state owned GIC and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). The investment is for accelerating expansion across Asia Pacific – including a key acquisition of Yondr’s hyperscale campus in Johor, Malaysia, located in Sedenak Tech Park.

The Johor campus (to be rebranded JHB1) sits on nearly 73 acres and, once fully built out with three data centres, will deliver more than 300 MW. It will also employ modern tech like direct-to-chip liquid cooling and is on track for EDGE certification. With this acquisition, Vantage’s Asia Pacific platform will reach approximately 1 GW of operational and planned capacity, spanning Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Regulatory approvals for the Johor sale are expected in Q4 2025.

Yondr’s refocus

Even as Vantage absorbs the Johor campus, Yondr Group is repositioning. In the announcement of the sale, Yondr said it will now align its resources toward growth in North America and Europe, where it sees stronger demand for large-scale, high-performance infrastructure.

Yondr currently has more than 320 MW of leased IT capacity in existing sites across Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Northern Virginia and Toronto, along with several hundred megawatts of land-bank secured. In particular, it has recently acquired a 163-acre site in Dallas, Texas, earmarked for a 550 MW campus.
