The Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat) has signed an agreement with China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) to manufacture a new satellite.
As the operator marks its 50th anniversary, the new satellite, Arabsat-50, will support Arabsat’s television broadcasting services and provide additional capacity and backup options across its network.
The high-power Ku-band satellite will operate from the 26° East orbital position and support Direct-to-Home (DTH) television broadcasting.
‘Arabsat-50’ will also give Arabsat more flexibility in how it manages its satellite capacity, and will allow the company to use its available capacity more efficiently and reduce the risk of service interruptions.
The satellite will also support Arabsat’s backup and disaster recovery plans, the company revealed.
If problems affect other parts of the network, ‘Arabsat-50′ will be able to provide additional capacity to help keep services running.
