Telefónica Deutschland is looking to expand the role of AI in network design and service delivery, moving beyond its traditional use in network operations.
Speaking to Mobile Europe for its ‘OSS: Why trusted data matters as a catalyst for AI modernisation’ report, sponsored by Blue Planet, Eva Ulicevic, Director of Architecture, Strategy and Technology Enablement at Telefónica Deutschland, revealed how AI could change the way operators design and manage networks, making it quicker and easier to develop services and giving engineers more flexibility.
She said: “We are going through a fundamental shift from AI-assisted operations to AI-assisted engineering. AI will increasingly translate business requirements into technical service designs, generate network models, validate dependencies, and prepare deployment artefacts.
“This will significantly shorten service introduction cycles while making advanced network engineering accessible to a much broader group of engineers, reducing dependency on highly specialised expertise.”
Intent-based operations will also play a bigger role, the report revealed, onstead of having to work out all the technical details, teams will simply tell the network what they want to achieve, with AI and automation handling much of the work behind the scenes.
As a result, Ulicevic sees this as an important part of future operations support systems (OSS), especially as networks become more complex and need to work across different domains.
“Instead of expressing technical configurations, business teams and engineers will specify the outcomes they want to achieve.
“AI and automation will translate those intentions into coordinated actions across increasingly complex multi-domain networks, allowing operators to focus on business outcomes rather than implementation details,” she added.
