Orange Cyberdefense has partnered with Mistral AI to develop AI-powered cybersecurity tools that will help businesses detect, investigate and respond to cyber threats faster.
As a result, the partnership will give Orange Cyberdefense early access to a version of Mistral Large 4, an AI model designed to support advanced cybersecurity tasks.
The companies will initially focus on penetration testing, which identifies weaknesses in IT systems and incident investigation, helping security teams understand how cyberattacks happened.
The aim is to use AI to speed up security operations while ensuring cybersecurity experts remain in control of important decisions.
Under the agreement, AI tools will gradually be introduced into selected Orange Cyberdefense services, helping security teams explore more potential attack scenarios, analyse evidence following incidents and establish how breaches occurred.
According to the telecoms giant, safeguards will include controlled access, activity tracking, security testing and human oversight, with specialists remaining responsible for critical decisions.
Orange Cyberdefense CEO, Hugues Foulon, said: “As threats become ever faster, industrialised and now automated, defense must operate at a different scale. Volume, speed, trust: these are the three challenges facing cybersecurity in the age of AI.
“With Mistral AI, we are building European cyber AI, trained by our experts and operated under their control. By combining the power of AI, the expertise of our teams and our Cyber Threat Intelligence, we are accelerating our response so that we can protect more broadly, more quickly and with trusted European technology.”
Mistral AI Co-Founder and CTO, Timothée Lacroix, added: “We are proud to partner with Orange Cyberdefense, one of Europe’s cybersecurity leaders, and to bring them Mistral Large 4, a model with frontier capabilities in cyber. Together, we share one goal: giving European organisations a sovereign, trusted AI solution to defend themselves, built and operated in Europe.”
The partnership also focuses on European data sovereignty, with Mistral AI’s technology running on computing infrastructure based in Europe.
