This follows a deal between Khazna Data Centers and Benya Group, a digital and ICT infrastructure provider in Egypt and the MEA

Egypt will have its first hyperscale data centre after a shareholders’ agreement between Khazna Data Centers, which runs a network of hyperscale data centres in the Middle East and North Africa (MEA), and Benya Group. The latter is a digital and ICT infrastructure provider in Egypt and the MEA.

The intention for the two to build the data centre was announced by Khazna in May. At that time, Hossam Heiba, President, General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) said, This great project comes in line with Egypt’s plan to localize information technology and data centers, especially given the significant development witnessed by the technological infrastructure sector in Egypt.”

The data centre will be in Egypt’s Maadi Technology Park and require a combined investment of more than $250 million (€228.76 million). The partners expect the new data centre to help in the development of AI, providing an additional 25 MegaWatt of IT load and an essential element in Egypt’s digital ecosystem.

Hassan Alnaqbi, CEO of Khazna Data Centers, said of the deal being finalised, “The new data center will provide crucial support to businesses in Egypt seeking to expand internationally, offering state-of-the-art solutions that cater to the needs of multinational corporations striving to grow and innovate in the Middle East and North African markets.”

Ahmed Mekky, Chairman and CEO of Benya Group, added, “We are eager to embark on the next phase of our partnership with Khazna Data Centers. This agreement…marks an essential milestone in our journey to solidify our presence in…the country, supported by our partner, Khazna Data Centers.”
