FLAG has appointed Paul Abfalter as its new Chief Executive Officer, with effect from 1 October 2026.
Abfalter, currently FLAG’s Chief Strategy & Revenue Officer, will succeed Carl Grivner, who will step down as CEO and take on the role of Non-Executive Chairman.

Abfalter brings over 20 years of experience in global telecommunications.
He joined FLAG in 2024, after spending nearly 23 years at Telstra in various senior executive roles, most recently Head of Global Wholesale & North Europe.
In a statement, the subsea company said: “Paul’s appointment reflects FLAG’s continued focus on strengthening its global network and delivering long-term value for customers, partners and stakeholders.
“His deep knowledge of the business and extensive industry experience positions him well to lead FLAG through its next phase of growth.”
