MWC – Orange Telecom joins Verizon Wireless in Wireless Power Consortium

    -

The Wireless Power Consortium (“WPC”) today welcomed Orange Telecom to its growing member list of more than 70 leading consumer electronics and technology companies from around the world. European mobile network operator Orange joins leading U.S. service provider Verizon Wireless in support of Qi (pronounced “chee”), the global standard for wireless charging.

“We are delighted to welcome Orange to the Wireless Power Consortium,” said WPC Chairman Menno Treffers. “The engagement of mobile service providers brings the benefits of wireless charging rapidly to a very large group of consumers.”

The WPC also announced that members are demonstrating new products and prototypes using its universal wireless charging standard, Qi (pronounced “chee”) at the 2011 Mobile World Congress. As the world’s universal wireless charging standard, Qi brings simplicity, convenience, and flexibility to consumers because it ensures interoperability between any Qi-enabled device and any Qi charger, regardless of brand or manufacturer.
