MWC – Scalado showcases HDR and advanced image capture technology on TI’s OMAP 4 platform

    -

Scalado, a provider of high-performance imaging technologies, applications and services for the mobile industry, has today announced that it will be offering a live demonstration of its new innovations on the OMAP 4 platform from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) at Mobile World Congress (MWC).

By pre-integrating Scalado’s Framework with TI’s OMAP 4 technology, mobile users will have access to instant high dynamic range imaging (HDR). HDR allows users to create stunning images by automatically taking multiple photos at different exposure settings and then processing all of the best elements of each shot into a single image with perfectly balanced lighting.

“For Scalado there is no difference between a Digital Still Camera, a mobile phone, or any other image capturing device. Ultimately, the end user is the most important player here, and therefore has the right to have the same user experience on any device,” says Fadi Abbas, Scalado’s VP BizDev/CMO and Co-founder. “HDR, for example, should be a default feature, and not just a post-capturing feature, as it is on many of today’s most popular mobile devices.”

By working together, Scalado and TI will make it simple for handset manufacturers to easily integrate advanced, fully-optimised imaging applications such as instant full-resolution image handling, advanced ‘zero shutter lag’, burst-mode image capturing, HDR imaging, 3D capturing, and instant zoom/pan at the moment the image is captured.

“Showcasing Scalado’s new technology, framework and methodology on our OMAP 4 platform is evidence of TI’s belief in the potential of HDR in mobile devices,” says Fred Cohen, director, OMAP wireless ecosystem, TI. “We look forward to continuing our work with Scalado to bring this new, compelling technology to TI customers, delivering the next generation of highly advanced imaging solutions to the market.”

Scalado remains at the heart of the mobile imaging market, and is currently working with all major platform, camera and phone manufacturers to deliver innovative new functionality with a very short time to market. Testament to this fact is that more than 600 million mobile phone handsets now feature Scalado software, and Scalado lists all of the top five tier 1 mobile phone manufacturers and top 10 ISP/Sensor companies as its licensees.
